Shaping the medicine of the future in Switzerland
On March 31, 2014, the symposium “From Systems Medicine to Personalized Health” will take place at the Inselspital in Bern. Leading international and Swiss researchers and clinicians will discuss the latest advances in personalized medicine. The symposium will help identify the directions in which personalized healthcare will develop in Switzerland in the near future.

SystemsX.ch/SIB Summer School 2014
The growing importance of systems approaches in medicine has lead the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and SystemsX.ch to join forces to organize a Summer School for PhD students and postdocs entitled “Systems Medicine and its applications”. The course will take place from June 22-27, 2014 in Kandersteg, Switzerland.

Strong Swiss response to first ERASysAPP call
34 proposals by 206 research groups have been submitted in response to the first joint transnational call on “Transferring Systems Biology Knowledge into Applications” from ERA-Net ERASysAPP. A total of 19 Swiss groups contributed to 14 of the submitted proposals. The call, launched in November 2013, aims to encourage collaboration beyond national boundaries. Automated cell type recognition
In a proof-of-concept study, researchers from the University of Lausanne and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics have achieved automated cell type recognition. This technique could be adapted to the study of several developmental processes, overcoming some of the difficulties of following them at a cellular level.
