SIB Virtual Computational Biology Seminar Series

The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is offering a series of bi-monthly on-site/online seminars to allow life scientists, clinicians and bioinformaticians to:

• Learn more about SIB’s research and resources in the fields of bioinformatics, biostatistics, biocuration and computational biology
• Discuss innovative tools and methodologies, developed by SIB and external experts, and presented in a training oriented approach

Each seminar will be broadcast and available via live webcast or the SIB Virtual Seminar Series YouTube playlist.

SIB course: Statistics for Life Scientists - Basel, Switzerland

This four-day course will be held in Basel from October 17-20, 2016. It is intended for life science researchers working with quantitative data, who wish to improve their knowledge of basic statistics and apply this to a variety of biological problems. Topics covered during the course include: exploratory data analysis, hypothesis tests, linear models, correlation and regression, tests and models for next-generation sequencing (NGS) expression data, and cluster analysis.

Workshop SIB: Best Practices in Programming - Zurich, Switzerland

The workshop "Best Practices in Programming" will take place from October 19-20, 2016 in Zurich at SIB. This workshop will focus mainly on the practices of unit testing, refactoring, and version control through hands-on experience.

Basar Molekular: The Talk - Basel, Switzerland

Leading members of the NCCR Molecular Systems Engineering team will discuss scientific as well as non-scientific issues with opinion leaders, public figures and personalities from the arts, sports, private sector, politics, and with the live-audience for a radio production. The purpose of the 2-hour live-program is to stimulate an interdisciplinary discourse between the scientific community and society. "Basar Molekular: The Talk" will take place at SUD in Basel on 27 October, 2016.
